APPLY

Follow the steps below to login to the NinerScholars Portal, get matched with scholarship opportunities, and submit applications. Carefully review the instructions and bookmark this page to reference as you apply for scholarships.

Please remember that scholarships must be applied for at Charlotte through the NinerScholars Portal. The university does not use an automatic process to award scholarships solely on prior academic performance (GPA, test scores, etc.). Students who choose not to use the NinerScholars Portal will not be considered for institutional scholarships.

Get Started

Step 1: Activate your NinerNET account. It may take up to 48 hours from the time you set up or reactivate your NinerNET account until you can log into the NinerScholars Portal.

  • New first-year undergraduate and graduate students must be admitted before you can access NinerScholars.
    • If you haven’t activated your NinerNET account, locate your NinerNET username on your admission acceptance letter. If you already activated your NinerNET account, but forgot your username or password, request it here.
    • Please note that students admitted for Spring 2025 must wait until classes start on January 13th to login to NinerScholars. Scholarships for Spring 2025 were already awarded.
  • Transfer students must be admitted before you can access NinerScholars.
    • If you haven’t activated your NinerNET account, locate your NinerNET username on your admission acceptance letter. If you already activated your NinerNET account, but forgot your username or password, request it here.

    • The university has limited scholarship opportunities for transfer students at this time.
  • Current undergraduate and graduate students can apply for scholarships each year.
    • Scholarship applications do not carry over from one year to the next.
    • If you do not login to NinerScholars each year and complete the required application materials, you will not be considered for scholarships awarded for the next academic year.

APPLY

Step 2: Click here to login to NinerScholars.

Step 3: Use your NinerNet username and password to login to the NinerScholars Portal. Carefully read, sign, and submit the Acknowledgment of Student Confidentiality and Responsibility statement.

Step 4: Review your scholarship matches. This list is generated by comparing the information in your student record with the criteria for each scholarship.

Click the gold Apply button next to a scholarship you want to start applying for. When the application opens, the application menu will display as green blocks on the left side of the page. Each block represents a different material you must complete. The application menu will highlight the section in white that you’re currently working on.

Different applications may require you to complete different materials. For example, if a recommendation letter is required, you’ll see a Recommendation block in the application menu. When you click on the Recommendation block, you’ll be prompted to enter contact information for the reference you choose. After submitting the contact information, a system-generated email will be sent to your reference with instructions on how to complete and submit the recommendation letter form. If a recommendation letter is not required to be considered for a scholarship, you will not see a Recommendation block in the application menu for that scholarship.

Answer the question at the bottom of the first page (Scholarship Details block) to self-report if you meet all criteria to be considered for this scholarship. Next, click the Continue button at the bottom of the page or click the next block in the navigation menu to advance to the next application material page. Answering the questions on the Scholarship Details and the Questions to Determine Eligibility pages will confirm if you’re eligible to apply for the scholarship, or not. If an application you’re working on doesn’t have a Questions to Determine Scholarship Eligibility block, there are no questions required and you can move on to the next application material.

SUBMIT

Step 5: Submit your completed application. After you submit all required materials, you’ll need to electronically sign your application. After signing, the system will run a final review and alert you if any materials are missing. If your review shows no errors, click the Submit button.

After you submit an application, it will display in a new section on your scholarship dashboard, Complete Scholarship Applications. Each time you login to NinerScholars, scroll to the bottom of your dashboard page. New section headings will generate automatically as your applications advance through the application creation, submission, review, and award processes.

REVIEW

Step 6: Wait for a scholarship review. When a scholarship deadline passes, a scholarship review committee will review all complete applications and select which students will receive the scholarship.

Step 7: Login to NinerScholars regularly for updates. If you’re offered a scholarship, you’ll receive an email and see a notification on your scholarship dashboard. Students who are not offered a scholarship will not receive an email, but the status of the application on their dashboard will eventually update, when the committee review is complete.

AWARD

Step 8: Accept any scholarship offers. Notification for Freshmen Only Early Action select scholarships is typically made by the end of April. Notification for most other scholarships should be between May and July. If you have been offered a scholarship, you will receive an email instructing you how to access and accept your scholarship offer in the NinerScholars Portal. After a scholarship has been offered, the scholarship will display under a new section on your dashboard, Scholarships with Decisions Available.

Students must accept a scholarship offer in NinerScholars before it will be sent to the Financial Aid Office and applied to their UNC Charlotte account.
