How To Apply For Scholarships
The NinerScholars Portal is now open! Current students and students accepted for fall 2027 can now apply for scholarships! Scholarships for the Spring 2027 semester were already awarded.
You may follow the steps below to login to the NinerScholars Portal, get matched with scholarship opportunities you may be eligible for, and submit applications. Carefully review the instructions and bookmark this page to reference as you apply for scholarships.
Please remember that scholarships must be applied for at Charlotte through the NinerScholars Portal. The university does not use an automatic process to award merit scholarships. Students who choose not to use the NinerScholars Portal will not be considered for institutional scholarships.
Get Started
Activate your NinerNET account. It may take 24 to 48 hours from the time you set up or reactivate your NinerNET account until you can log into the NinerScholars Portal.
- New first-year undergraduate and graduate students must be accepted before you can access NinerScholars.

- Current undergraduate and graduate students can apply for scholarships each year.
- Scholarship applications do not carry over from one year to the next.
- If you do not login to NinerScholars each year and complete the required application materials, you will not be considered for scholarships awarded for the next academic year.
- Second bachelor’s degree students are not eligible to apply for scholarships unless you are in the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program. There is a small pool of select scholarships that only ABSN students pursuing a second degree may be eligible to apply for.
APPLY
Step 1: Log in. Access the NinerScholars Portal using your NinerNet username and password. Read, sign, and submit the Acknowledgment of Student Confidentiality and Responsibility statement. This page includes a question about the FAFSA – the vehicle the university uses to determine financial need.
Step 2: Review your list of scholarship matches. These are scholarships you may be eligible to apply for. The list is generated by comparing information in your student record with the individual criteria for each scholarship available. You must meet all criteria listed to be eligible to apply for a scholarship.
Step 3: Start an application. Click the gold Apply button next to a scholarship(s) you want to start applying for.
Step 4: Complete all sections of the application. Use the navigation menu found to the left of
the page to access each section of the application or click the Continue button at the bottom of each page. (The active section you’re working on will display in white.)
- Scholarship Details: Respond to the question at the bottom of the page to confirm you meet the criteria. Then answer any other questions you see.
- Materials: Upload any materials you are asked for in the scholarship application. This may include a resume, essay, transcript and/or something else. Transcripts may be unofficial or copies.
- Recommendations: If required, enter your reference’s contact information. An automated email with submission instructions will be sent to each of your references within 24 hours. Be sure to stay in touch with your reference until the recommendation is received.
SUBMIT
Step 5: Sign and review. Once you have completed all materials required by the application, electronically sign your application.
Step 6: Submit. The system will automatically check for incomplete items. If no errors are found, click Submit.
Step 7: Track status. View submitted applications in the Completed Scholarships section of your student dashboard in the NinerScholars Portal.
REVIEW
Wait for a scholarship review. When a scholarship deadline passes, a scholarship review committee will review all complete applications and select which students will receive the scholarship.
Login to NinerScholars regularly for updates. If you’re offered a scholarship, you’ll receive an email and see a notification on your scholarship dashboard. Students who are not offered a scholarship will not receive an email, but the status of the application on their dashboard will eventually update, when the committee review is complete.
AWARD
Accept any scholarship offers. Decision notifications for First-Year Only Early Action select scholarships typically begins in early April. Notification for most other scholarships should be between May and July. If you have been offered a scholarship, you will receive an email instructing you how to access and accept your scholarship offer in the NinerScholars Portal. After a scholarship has been offered, the scholarship will display under a new section on your dashboard, Scholarships with Decisions Available.
Students must accept a scholarship offer in NinerScholars before the offer information is sent to the Financial Aid Office. Once it arrives in Financial Aid it is put in a queue until it can be added to the student’s account. Scholarships are disbursed 10 days before classes start for the semester(s) of the awards.
